It is a movie that can put a smile on your lips with that salty flavor of your tears. i ensure you that you will have this mix of feelings once you know that it is based on a true story. this movie is a biography. i am not going to narrate the plot to you because that would ruin the movie and the pleasure of living it moment by moment.
Have you ever felt that you should find what you have lost? have you ever felt that it is not fair to lose? this movie would give you a different dimension of loss anyways
What makes this movie really special are the motifs of "eyes" and "hands" .. the movie keeps you watching and waiting for more as if you are hungry for more .. more information or more emotions. You will meet that old Irish mother who is innocent as a child. I do not know why she is like that .. maybe because the circle of life gets you there after all. the more you get old .. the more you go back in time. on the other hand, maybe it was just me who felt it like that but they deprived her from being a mother .. from growing up .. from getting her maturity normally. this is so confusing that i do not really understand. Although that would confuse you as well but it will leave you with a sympathy for that unique story.
The uniqueness of the movie raises a question , are we really able to forgive? With an eye full of sadness mixed with victory Judi Dench declares that she forgives. As an audience that would shock you. this also would make you rethink of many situations in your life. She forgives and this is hard but she believes that being angry is exhausting. Here, you choose what you want to be Judi Dench "Philomena" or Steve Coogan "Martin Sixsmith".
Personally, I believe that hating is not helping, it disturbs your concentration on the love you can give to people and things that really deserve your attention. Although i wished if i can hate, deep deep in my heart i thanked God for taking that away from me. I am not an angel or a saint .. i only have been taught that it is exhausting to hate .. Hating is loving people negatively without getting any good of it.
Philomena taught me a lesson today, forgiving is not easy and does not mean you are weak. It means that you are so strong that you beat your anger.
Take 98 minute of your life and watch this movie .. with someone that you would like to look in his/her eyes after the end of the movie .. and thank God for not being lost. This movie will you give you the joy of finding what you may lose but it takes this joy immediately and gives you a lesson instead of it .. a lesson of not taking things for guarantee. Having your family around, you may feel that it is normal . However the normal in Ireland for many women to see their babies taken away. I can not promise you to enjoy the movie, it is a small sample of life .. life that may would be yours .. or life that is just a movie. the question is .. Do you enjoy life? .. would you forgive ? .. Are you angry? .. and after watching .. are you still angry .. ?
This movie is capable of giving you smiles when you are not expecting .. tears when you are not ready and a lesson when you are welling to learn a life lesson
Philomena would be me 40 years later ..
"I forgive you because I don't want to remain angry."
Last note ... there is a gay character in the movie .. if you can not stand that .. do not watch. Do not get yourself angry. After all it is a true story; a true story that you can not change with your judgment. who are we to judge?

Philomena: But I don't wanna hate people. I don't wanna be like you. Look at you.
Martin Sixsmith: I'm angry.
Philomena: Must be exhausting.
